Creston Valley Wildlife Center
Nestled between the Selkirk and the Purcell Mountains in Southeastern British Columbia, the beautiful Creston valley is the site of the Creston Valley Wildlife Area. These 17,000 acres are Ramsar designated "wetland of international importance" stretches from the south end of Kootenay Lake to the United States Border and is part of the Pacific Flyway.
Since the Wildlife Area’s creation, habitat management has had a positive impact on the biodiversity of the area. Today, more than 250 species of birds, 50 mammal species, 30 reptile and amphibian species, several thousand invertebrate species, and several hundred species of plants can be found in the Wildlife Area. It is also the site of a number of rare or imperilled species, like the Forster’s Tern, Northern Leopard Frog, American Sweetflag, and the Short-eared Owl.
